TerreStar Government Services
Public Safety and Emergency Response - Interoperable, Reliable, and Survivable Communications
As September 11, 2001 and Hurricane Katrina ruthlessly demonstrated, saving lives and property demands communication networks that satisfy high-demand users and their need for prioritized communications. To help meet today's communication challenges, TerreStar is building, the first all IP mobile communications network that can be dedicated to providing prioritized communication services to the nation's public safety and emergency response community. In the event of an emergency, TerreStar can devote the full resources of its network to help maintain vital communications so first responders and critical personnel can manage the crisis. Fusing the power of the nation's first all IP mobile communications network with an integrated next-generation satellite - terrestrial system, TerreStar will provide the flexibility and scalability necessary to shift capacity and power to high-priority areas to strengthen and maintain critical communications. Importantly, TerreStar will offer 'plug and play' capability with legacy systems such as Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks.
TerreStar's network is interoperable, reliable, and survivable. In the event that ground-based communication becomes unavailable, as happened during Katrina, TerreStar will seamlessly shift users to the satellite network without interruption or loss of service. TerreStar will enable true interoperability among network users, eliminating traditional communications boundaries between state, local and federal authorities - law enforcement will be able to talk to federal and state officials and rescue workers to the military. Plus, communication on the TerreStar network will be secure thanks to systems meeting U.S. Government and industry standard hardware and software encryption.
Ubiquitous Coverage. All IP Application Rich
TerreStar will be the first to offer government customers a suite of next generation customer-branded communication and situational awareness applications and control systems. Government customers will have control over their service to securely add, tailor, and manage applications and users in real-time through a dashboard over standard browser interfaces - affordably and at broadband speeds. With TerreStar, real-time communications and management applications previously tied to stationary devices, such as desktop computers, will be accessible via portable devices, like laptops and PDA's, anywhere through a browser. TerreStar customers will be able to choose from cutting-edge provisioning, billing, customer care and order entry services.
TerreStar will also provide robust customer-centric support. Optimized for user-management and control, customers will benefit from features such as:
Self-care browser portals featuring secure, independent user management and services
State-of-the-art functions geared to support next-generation IP networks and services (i.e. no legacy infrastructure to "retrofit")
Customizable dashboards enabling real-time analysis of network users and service activity
Fully-redundant operation for easy transition to customer control
Cutting-Edge Network
TerreStar's best-in-class terrestrial network infrastructure can be leveraged to enhance existing communications capacity. Carriers, companies and government entities can profit from TerreStar's transport backbone, including wireless backhaul to add capabilities in:
Network Development and Operations (Backbone, Towers and Facilities)
Systems and IP Engineering
Satellite System Development
Program Management
TerreStar will leverage industry-leading technology to build its terrestrial network. By leap-frogging the legacy system investments that have previously limited traditional wireless and telecommunication providers, TerreStar is able to deliver state-of-the-art next generation mobile communications services at affordable rates.
